Course Description
Increase student awareness of business functions and the business environment. (LCSC students: Not open to business majors of Junior or Senior standing.)
This is an introductory course in the basics of understanding business and business principles and practices. Major topic areas include business trends, business ownership, business management, management of human resources, marketing, decision-making, information technology, and managing financial resources. Included in these topical areas, you will learn what it means to own your own business, compete globally, act responsibly and ethically, manage and lead human resources, market your product(s)/service(s), use information technology, and manage finances.

Course Rules and Requirements
3 graded assignments, 2 worksheets, 20 open-book chapter quizzes, 2 exams, 2 practice exams.
Assignment & Lesson Guidelines
- There are 25 assignments for this course: 20 open-book chapter quizzes, 3 written assignments (lessons 7, 11, and 20), and 2 worksheets (lessons 6 and 16). There is a midterm and a final exam.
- Students may take quizzes on Canvas as the final step in completing each lesson.
- Students may submit ONE assignment per week; however, assignments and exams must be submitted consecutively, in the order outlined in the course. Wait to receive a grade on the previous exam before submitting subsequent assignments
- Submit assignments and receive grades via Canvas.
- Keep a copy of every assignment submitted. Write your name, V number, course subject/number, and assignment number on every submission.
- An instructor may take up to two weeks to grade so plan accordingly to meet personal deadlines.
- The final course grade is issued after all assignments and exams have been graded.
- Acts of academic dishonesty, including cheating or plagiarism, may result in a grade of “F” for the course.

Graded exams are not returned to the student.

Grade Information
The course grade will be based upon the following considerations:
- Assignment #6 Business Worksheet = 50 pts
- Assignment #7 Article Email 1 = 50 pts
- Assignment #11 Article Email 2 = 50 pts
- Assignment #16 Marketing Worksheet = 50 pts
- Assignment #20 Business Plan = 100 pts
- 20 Chapter Quizzes (5 pts each) = 100 pts
- 2 Exams (100 pts each) = 200 pts
600 total points possible
Accumulated points will be divided by the total points available (600) and a grade will be determined using the following percentage scale:
- 92% to 100% A
- 90% to 91% A-
- 88% to 89% B+
- 82% to 87% B
- 80% to 81% B-
- 78% to 79% C+
- 70% to 77% C
- 68% to 69% D+
- 60% to 67% D
- 0% to 59% F
